Nappies, soaps, even kid’s toys, there are plenty of things that find their way into the toilet that can cause a major build up of clutter blocking the smooth flow of the toilet. A consistent flow of such foreign objects can create serious blocked drainage problems, so it is always important to be careful what you flush.
Toilet paper and baby items such as nappies and baby wipes are typically the two most common objects to block drains. Throughout the day, we use an excess of both, and while toilet paper is designed to be flushed down the toilet, large amounts of it can easily cause blockage. Nappies are in some aspects worse, in that they retain water and thus dramatically increase in size, as they hold more and more water, so it makes sense that these would be a big problem.
Grease & Fat
This particular (and surprisingly common) cause is very easy to prevent. When washing up of an evening, so few people take the opportunity to properly wash down their sinks and services, meaning fatty substances stick to the inside of pipes, gradually clogging the drains. It really is a case of being a little bit careful to prevent this kind of blockage.
