CCTV Drain Surveys & Winter Flood Risks
On the whole, East Anglia has been quite fortunate in recent years when it comes to flooding. Aside from the disastrous storm surge that hit Norfolk in 2013, localised coastal flooding caused by high tides and the occasional river bursting its banks, we’ve been relatively unaffected.
We’ve certainly got off lightly compared to other regions. Storm Desmond, which has devastated Cumbria and the North West, continues to wreak havoc, but has so far missed us in the East.
Perhaps we’ve earned some respite after the horrific floods and gales that ripped through in the ‘Big Flood’ of 1953?
The bad news is, a couple of years ago, Jules Pretty, professor of Environment and Society at the University of Essex, warned in The Guardian that another big one could be on its way.
Problems Caused by a Flooded Drain
So what would another big flood or heavy snow melt mean to Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire?
The obvious impact of extreme flooding is loss of life, damage to property and infrastructure, rail service disruption, power cuts and vehicle strandings, but there are also ramifications below ground.
Flood waters carry all manner of debris and detritus, which will inevitably find its way into commercial and domestic drainage systems. And there it lurks. Waiting for the water to recede. This can result in serious blockages and/or damage to pipes.
Harsh winter conditions can also cause pipes to freeze, crack, burst and leak, which is the last thing you want to be dealing with when the in-laws are on their way over for Christmas dinner!
Don’t panic. There’s an easy way to pre-empt the problem.
CCTV Drain Survey
The most cost effective, hassle-free method of inspecting your drain is by carrying out a CCTV survey.
Rather than digging up the ground outside your property, we’ll put a CCTV camera into your drain and view the live footage to quickly identify any issues. All of our vans carry specialist CCTV equipment.
After carrying out a survey, our expert technicians will produce a detailed report diagnosing any faults and prescribing a course of action to remedy the situation. You even get to keep a copy of the video footage!
We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers a very Merry, Safe & Dry Christmas and a Happy & Prosperous New Year!
